If you using Ubuntu you can Install or Update it via PPA.

• Open Terminal(Applications – Accessories – Terminal) and copy-paste the following line into Terminal.

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa
  

• Done. Now update repositories and upgrade your native Firefox 3.6 to its latest version, Firefox 3.6.6.

  sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

Ubuntu repository contains Ruby 1.9.1 package however this package suffers few bugs that doesn’t run some Gem packages. So I would highly RECOMMEND you to compile for yourself a instance of Ruby 1.9.1 from source. To compile Ruby from source, you need to install compilers and libraries headers.

$ sudo apt-get -y install libc6-dev libssl-dev libmysql++-dev libsqlite3-dev make build-essential libssl-dev libreadline5-dev zlib1g-dev

Install Ruby 1.9.1 from source

$ cd /tmp
$ mkdir src
$ cd src
$ wget ftp://ftp.ruby-lang.org/pub/ruby/1.9/ruby-1.9.1-p378.tar.bz2
$ tar xjvf ruby-1.9.1-p378.tar.bz2
$ cd ruby-19.1-p378
$ ./configure --prefix=/usr/local
$ sudo make && sudo make install

You can check if Ruby has been installed successfully by

$ ruby -v

and it should output

ruby 1.9.1p378 (2010-01-10 revision 26273) [i686-linux]

Should you see the “Happy new Ruby” returned, then your installation is ready to go

ruby -ropenssl -rzlib -rreadline -e "puts 'Happy new Ruby'"

Ruby 1.9 bundles RubyGem so you don’t have to install it
Install SQLite3 and MySQL 5.1

$ sudo apt-get install mysql-server-5.1 sqlite3

Please make sure you set a password for MySQL server.
Install Rails and essential gems

$ sudo gem update --system
$ sudo gem install mysql rails rack rake mysql sqlite3-ruby
$ sudo gem install ruby-debug19 -- --with-ruby-include=./ruby-1.9.1-p378/

We can check if all gems are installed successfully

$ gem list

and it should list

1. Make sure Apache 2 and MySQL already installed
2. Install build-essential, paste code below in your console

   sudo apt-get install build-essential
   

3. Install Ruby and others components

   sudo apt-get install ruby ri rdoc irb ruby-dev libruby libmysql-ruby libopenssl-ruby libmysqlclient-dev sqlite3 libsqlite3-ruby libsqlite3-dev

4. Install RubyGems

   sudo apt-get install rubygems
   

5. Install Rails

   sudo gem install rails
   

6. Install Mongrel-Cluster

7. Install mysql and sqlite3 gem

8. For optional I add this command to create symbolik link

Now test your installation, create rails applications with this command

rails testapp
cd testapp/
script/server

Then open http://localhost:3000, if successful will be the default screen out Ruby on Rails.

Note :

• Command above will create rails application using SQlite3 database
• if you will create rails application using mysql database, change your command with

  rails -d mysql <nameapplication>

I really didn’t expect the Fn keys to work out of the box on my Asus EeePC 1005HA (so this method has only been tested for this Asus EeePC model, I don’t know if it works on others) and unfortunately I was right. However, the fix is very quick. Here’s what you have to do.

Notice: editing the Grub can be dangerous so be very careful not to change anything else!

To enable the Fn keys on an Asus EeePC 1005HA (possibly other models too) with Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, open a terminal and type:

sudo gedit /etc/default/grub

and search for the line that says:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT

This line should originally look like this:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

Add acpi_osi=Linux to the end of the line, before the closing quote. Basically after you edit it, the line should look like this:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux"

Once you’re done, save the file and run the following command:

sudo update-grub

Now reboot!

Pada beberapa waktu yang lalu, saya menulis tentang memasang Open Office 3.2 melalu download deb. Tetapi cara tersebut tidak mendukung upgrade karena mereka tidak diinstal melalui repositori , karena itu dengan disarankan untuk menginstal / upgrade OpenOffice ke versi 3.2 di ubuntu 9,10 (Karmic) dengan menggunakan paket-paket di OpenOffice Scribblers PPA.

Untuk menginstal / upgrade OpenOffice 3,2 di Ubuntu 9,10 Karmic Koala, sisipkan perintah berikut dalam terminal:

1. Menambahkan Repository OpenOffice Scribblers PPA

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:openoffice-pkgs/ppa

2. Install OpeOffice 3.2

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install openoffice.org

3. Jika menggunakan Gnome, instal paket berikut :

sudo apt-get install openoffice.org-gnome

4. Jika menggunakan KDE, install paket berikut :

sudo apt-get install openoffice.org-kde

5. Upgrade ke OpenOffice 3.2

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

Catatan: Jika sebelumnya Anda telah menginstal OpenOffice dari. Deb file yang disediakan di situs OpenOffice atau Go-OO paket dari situs Go-OO, pergi ke System> Administration> Synaptic Package Manager, kemudian cari “openoffice” dan hapus semua paket , kemudian lanjutkan dengan langkah-langkah yang disebutkan di atas untuk menginstal OpenOffice OpenOffice 3,2 melalui PPA Scribblers repositori.

Awalnya saya ingin menunggu PPA (OpenOffice Scribblers) untuk mendapatkan OpenOffice 3,2 tetapi tampaknya akan terlalu lama dan tidak mungkin akan menunggu sampai Ubuntu Lucid Lynx (10,04) untuk menginstal OpenOffice terbaru 3,2 (walaupun Ubuntu menggunakan OO-Go, sebuah versi yang dioptimalkan OpenOffice), jadi saya memutuskan untuk men-download dan menginstal OOo 3,2 dari situs resminya. Penginstalan sangat mudah dan cepat!

Sebelum melanjutkan ke instalasi OpenOffice 3,2 (versi OpenOffice.org), perlu diketahui bahwa ada beberapa perbedaan antara versi OpenOffice.org dan OpenOffice.org versi dari repositori Ubuntu! What is a Proxy Server?

A Proxy server is an intermediary machine, between a client and the actual server, which is used to filter or cache requests made by the client.

This article is focused on the Different Caching Web Proxies.

Normal (Regular/Caching) Proxy:

A regular caching proxy server is a server which listens on a separate port (e.g. 3128) and the clients (browsers) are configured to send requests for connectivity to that port. So the proxy server receives the request, fetches the content and stores a copy for future use. So next time when another client requests for the same webpage the proxy server just replies to the request with the content in its cache thus improving the overall request-reply speed.

Transparent Proxy:

A transparent proxy server is also a caching server but the server is configured in such a way that it eliminates the client side (browser side) configuration. Typically the proxy server resides on the gateway and intercepts the WWW requests (port 80, 443 etc.) from the clients and fetches the content for the first time and subsequently replies from its local cache. The name Transparent is due to the fact that the client doesn’t know that there is a proxy server which mediates their requests. Transparent proxy servers are mostly used in big corporate organizations where the client side configuration is not easy (due to the number of clients). This type of server is also used in ISP’s to reduce the load on the bandwidth usage.

Reverse Proxy:

A reverse proxy is totally different in its usage because it is used for the benefit of the web server rather than its clients. Basically a reverse proxy is on the web server end which will cache all the static answers from the web server and reply to the clients from its cache to reduce the load on the web server. This type of setup is also known as Web Server Acceleration.
